made my number one safe food wrong two times in a row a couple months ago and i still can't bring myself to eat it again... i didn't even make it bad it tasted adequately fine which is why i still ate it, but apparently i shouldn't have bc it was still just wrong enough that the whole food is basically evil to me now. fuck my baja blasted life

quickie question-
Anyone got any blog recommendations that have a focus on posting/writing about neat things like bugs, plants, space, architecture, etc? I'm aiming broadly at science-adjacent topics but tbh I'm always open to curiosity about things unfamiliar as well :v
I'm specifically looking for such accounts that post that sort of stuff, and don't post/reblog a lot of misc, memes or news stuff. Especially the latter, my main goal is to refocus my online experience away from constant doom-news-spam and into a place of rest and learning, while keeping news reading boxed into its specific place and time.
Some examples of the vibe I'm loosely aiming for:
Artifacts and Arthropods, Arsanatomica, Snailfish Enthusiast

Hey y'all! Another weird question for you: How long do you have to fast for a blood sugar reading to count as a fasting blood sugar measurement? Also, does drinking soda (like, full sugar soda) slowly over the time before the blood test count as not-fasting? Asking because I keep testing* in the fasting blood sugar range when I am pretty sure I am not supposed to. Like, two hours after eating a meal when I've been slowly drinking soda the whole intervening time, or half an hour after drinking a whole full-sugar gatorade *with the home blood sugar test thing, not like doctor's office tests. though I test in the fasting range there too? I do know the word for the tester thing but I am brain fogged at the moment

anyways the fact that I can't go more than a few days without meat before I start to feel like my body is slowly breaking down is part of why I'm so vehement that any movement that insists on one diet for everyone is inherently ableist
not everyone CAN eat meat

So on the plus side I did correctly identify a thing I was experiencing (low blood sugar) and how to treat it (food and sugary beverages) but on the minus side I did not identify it immediately so I made a very, uh, not great pierogi plushie? Apparently low-blood-sugar-me is similar to benadryl-me in that I'll forget things like "limbs for a hamster plushie" or "making the pierogi look like a pierogi and not just a beige blob" I'm okay now, my blood sugar didn't even get to what technically counts as hypoglycemia, it's just been a while since it got to the very shaky hands stage without me noticing it

no more than 4 hours of sleep <3
#i fell asleep around 11. then had this dream about firefighter body horror? and it made me feel miserable so i woke up#at about 2:30/3. and then couldn't fall back asleep . maybe got half an hour around 6 am. gave up at 7#the worst part is also i'm going to have suuuchhh a long day#i traded my shift at work tomorrow so i can go on this activity with my friend. so today i have to work during lunch#i have a class that ends att 11:10. then work either till 1 or 1:30 idk. then another class at 1:45.#then a little time from 3 to 4:30 before i have to go to a talk for a different class bc it can count against an abscence/low grade to go#and then 6 pm i'm going to trivia at this used bookstore with my friend.#where lunch and dinner factor into this i do NOT know#so i went to the dining hall for breakfast even though i usually don't. and made an omelette sandwich for the protein (2 eggs!)#which forced me to sadly miss my favorite choclate chip pancakes that they havent made at all this semester and i don't think i've had sinc#2023.#and they had chocolate croissants there too. literally not fair#but of course i'm full from the 2 eggs + mushrooms + cheese + peppers + bagel that i had so i couldn't take a little extra#i was planning to take a banana to eat at lunch but they didn't have them. literally what sort of dining hall doesn't have bananas#i have a granola bar in my bag and the building my afternoon class is in has a cafe that does lunch but idk if any of their lunch#sandwiches are vegetarian#talkin

We had a nutrition class at cardiac rehab today and usually I'm like "UGH I KNOW stop lecturing me" but today a few people got involved in discussion and it was kinda neat
Someone said they didn't know how to replace red meat in their diet cuz they don't like fish, people suggested chicken or pork or Impossible Beef or seitan (sp?). One lady commented that she'd never tried chickpeas and didn't think she'd like the bean-y texture and I was like "Oh you gotta try them roasted they get so crunchy and tasty" and she was like "Ooh, I like crunchy!"
I mentioned I find lentils too mushy, and one of the therapists was like "Were they red lentils? Try the green, they stay firmer!"
And I could go on but like
Instead of coming out of that nutrition class feeling browbeaten and annoyed, I'm kind of excited to go to a nice grocery store tomorrow and pick out some new foods to try :)

There will be, eventually. I swear it! I'm just genuinely still getting fucked by bronchitis rn. Good news I finally finished most of the meds I was prescribed (except an inhaler who is my best friend and I love her because she helps me breathe), meaning I'm on the mend. Bad news, the withdrawal from one of the meds is kicking my feeble ass.
I will say this: I'm finally going to go see Bikeriders this weekend so hopefully some inspiration will hit and Biker!Gale will have his day.
None of my projects are ever abandoned btw. A/B/O fic is slowly getting worked on in the background as is the silly fic I mentioned a few days ago. Biker!Gale will get published I promise.
